Causes & Charities We Support
Supporting Charitable Causes is an important part of our Fan Group Community. In addition to supporting local efforts and worthy causes, we also created the #FeedTheForce Hunger Relief Initiative here in Houston, Texas. Here’s a list of our select charities, which continues to grow as we grow:
Houston Food Bank (Houston)
Our Star Wars Enthusiasts of Houston Hunger Relief Initiative, called “Feed the Force” was launched in 2015 during the movie release weekend for The Force Awakens. This food drive campaign directly benefits the Houston Food Bank. We’ve seen the great work of their nonprofit first-hand here in our local community after floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters. We’ve also hosted volunteer days in their food warehouse. This initiative started as an annual campaign and grew into a semiannual campaign held every May and December.
Challenge Air for Kids (Conroe)
We are honored to be featured guests each year since 2019 for the Challenge Air for Kids Fly Day in Conroe. This nonprofit provides special needs children with the opportunity to fly a plane with an experienced pilot guide. Challenge Air was created to change the perception of children with special needs through the gift flight and improve the quality of life for youth and their families. Our Fan Group loves being able to interact with the children, take photos with lightsabers and cheer them on for their special annual fly day. We see the great work they do first-hand!
Star Wars Reads (Global)
This Youth Literacy Campaign is supported by Star Wars groups & clubs, libraries, book publishers and schools around the galaxy. Our Fan Group has participated in this campaign every year by hosting a live-action story time at children’s libraries followed by Star Wars arts & crafts and foam Lightsaber builds. We thank DK Books for the Star Wars Reads “Be A Rebel: Read A Book” display we take to these library events to encourage children to read.
Congenital Heart Walk (Houston)
We are honored to be invited guests at the inaugural Houston Congenital Heart Walk. This nonprofit supports the mission of The Children’s Heart Foundation: to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects (CHDs) by funding the most promising research. Our Fan Group enjoys being able to interact with the children, take photos with lightsabers and cheer them on for their special walk.
SWEH Project Care
One of our newest ways to give back to others is through “Project Care“. This support-focused project includes sending cards of encouragement (and sometimes care packages) to Star Wars fans who are battling cancer. We have also adopted elderly assisted care facilities in our region by sending holiday cards to elderly residents.
